Steve Black

Black leads SSV’s operations, research and investments, leveraging decades of operational, product and analytical experience.   He serves as Board Director and/or Investment Lead to Greyscale AI (AI) and Ryp Labs (industrial)

Black previously Co-Founded enterprise software company, Topia, with Kennedy, where he helped grow the business from founding to global scale, holding positions including Chief Operating Officer, Chief Strategy Officer, and Chief Product Officer.  Over a decade-long tenure, Black helped scale the company’s global operations across more than 15 countries and was responsible for the analysis of investments into new products and regions.  After Topia, Black has focused on decarbonization tech.  He is a founding advisor to the biodiversity asset standard and registry, Natural Capital Reserve, and co-founded asset management software company, EcoSmart Labs. 

 Prior to Topia, Black was an Associate Partner at management consultancy firm Oliver Wyman, where he focused on optimizing operations and products for data-led business models.  Black holds a B.S. in Industrial Engineering and Economics from Northwestern University.  He is a dual US and UK citizen and lives in Cambridge, UK with his wife and two sons.
